Durable Leather Expansion Joints for Industrial Ducting and Equipment
Skytech Ultrafab Round Leather Bellows are flexible expansion joints fabricated from high-quality tanned industrial leather for use in pneumatic conveying lines, dust extraction ducting, industrial blower connections, and mechanical equipment linkages. Leather construction provides excellent abrasion resistance, natural flexibility at elevated temperatures, resistance to dust and particulate erosion, and long fatigue life under repeated compression and extension cycles — making it the preferred material for heavy-duty bellow applications in cement, mining, foundry, and general manufacturing industries.
What Is a Round Leather Bellows?
A Round Leather Bellows (or leather expansion joint) is a flexible cylindrical connector fabricated from one or more convolutions of industrial leather, clamped or flanged at both ends to connect two rigid pipe or duct sections. The leather convolution absorbs axial compression, axial extension, lateral offset, and angular misalignment between connected components — isolating mechanical vibration, accommodating thermal expansion, and protecting rigid piping from fatigue cracking. Leather is preferred over rubber or fabric in abrasive, high-particulate, and elevated-temperature applications where synthetic materials wear rapidly.

Features and Benefits
-
Heavy-Grade Tanned Leather:
Fabricated from 3–6 mm thick industrial chrome-tanned or vegetable-tanned leather — superior abrasion resistance against high-velocity particulate-laden airstreams compared to rubber or coated fabric alternatives
-
Multiple Convolutions:
Single, double, and triple-convolution designs available — more convolutions provide greater axial and lateral movement capacity for applications with larger thermal expansion or misalignment
-
Custom Flange or Clamp Ends:
Flanged ends in carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminium for bolted pipeline connections; plain clamp ends with SS band clamps for flexible duct connections — all standard flange drilling patterns
-
Wide Temperature Range:
Industrial leather withstands continuous service temperatures up to 120°C dry — significantly higher than EPDM or neoprene rubber bellow alternatives in dry, dusty environments
-
Abrasion-Resistant Inner Surface:
Smooth leather grain surface presented to the airstream resists erosion by abrasive mineral, cement, and fly-ash dust — outlasts rubber-lined and fabric alternatives in high-abrasion service
-
Custom Diameter and Length:
Any round bore diameter from 50 mm to 1500 mm and any convolution length fabricated to the pipe layout and movement requirement of each installation

Applications
-
Cement Plants:
Connecting pneumatic conveying blowers, separators, and transport lines in cement plants — leather withstands the abrasive cement dust that rapidly erodes rubber and fabric bellows
-
Mining and Minerals:
Expansion joints in mineral powder pneumatic transport lines — coal, fly ash, limestone, and phosphate powder conveying where abrasion resistance is the primary selection criterion
-
Foundry and Metal:
Dust extraction ductwork connections in foundry fettling, moulding, and grinding areas — leather handles the hot, abrasive metallic dust streams that destroy synthetic bellows rapidly
-
Bulk Material Handling:
Connecting blowers, cyclones, and transport lines in grain, fertiliser, and bulk chemical pneumatic conveying systems where abrasion and occasional moisture are present
-
Industrial Blower Connections:
Flexible connection between industrial centrifugal and positive displacement blowers and rigid ducting — isolates blower vibration from the ducting system to prevent fatigue failure
Why Choose Skytech Ultrafab for Round Leather Bellows?
-
Outlasts Rubber in Abrasive Service:
Industrial leather resists abrasion from mineral, cement, and fly-ash particulate 3–5× longer than EPDM or neoprene rubber — significantly lower replacement frequency and maintenance cost
-
Custom to Any Bore and Movement:
Any bore diameter and convolution geometry fabricated to the exact pipeline layout — no compromise on bore size or movement capacity to fit a standard catalogue item
-
Multiple End Connection Options:
Flanged and clamped ends in carbon steel, stainless, and aluminium cover all pipe connection standards from PN6 through PN25 and ANSI 150–600 drilling patterns
-
20+ Years Application Experience:
Skytech engineers have specified leather bellows across cement, mining, foundry, and conveying applications — correct leather grade, thickness, and convolution design for each service condition
-
Competitive with Rubber Alternatives:
Leather bellow pricing is competitive with high-grade rubber alternatives, while service life in abrasive applications is substantially longer — delivering lower total cost of ownership
