Pneumatically Actuated Silicone Inflatable Gaskets for Vessel Sealing
Skytech Ultrafab Silicone Inflatable Gaskets are pressure-activated elastomeric sealing elements that inflate with compressed air to create a positive, conformal seal around irregular, worn, or large-diameter vessel closures in pharmaceutical reactors, mixing vessels, centrifuge covers, and process equipment. When deflated, the gasket retracts to allow easy opening of the vessel; when inflated, it expands to fill and positively seal the mating surfaces — providing consistent, repeatable sealing across thousands of open-close cycles in GMP manufacturing environments.
What Is a Silicone Inflatable Gasket?
A Silicone Inflatable Gasket is a hollow silicone rubber profile that is installed in a groove around a vessel opening or hatch rim. A compressed air supply inflates the hollow interior, causing the silicone profile to expand outward and press firmly against the mating surface to create a seal. When the air is vented, the silicone elasticity causes the gasket to retract into its groove, freeing the mating surface for opening. The inflatable principle provides sealing force that is independent of mechanical clamping — particularly valuable for large-diameter vessels where uniform mechanical clamping is difficult to achieve.
Silicone Inflatable Gaskets
Features and Benefits
-
FDA-Grade Silicone:
Platinum-cured FDA 21 CFR-compliant silicone rubber — resists steam sterilisation at 134°C, chemical cleaning agents, and repeated inflation-deflation cycles without extractable release
-
Uniform Sealing Pressure:
Pneumatic inflation applies uniform sealing pressure around the full gasket circumference regardless of vessel size or surface irregularity — superior to mechanical gaskets that rely on bolt torque uniformity
-
Easy Open-Close Operation:
Deflating the gasket immediately releases the seal without tools — significantly faster vessel opening and closing than bolted flange gaskets, reducing batch changeover time
-
Large Diameter Capability:
Inflatable gaskets suitable for vessel openings from 100 mm to over 3000 mm diameter — particularly practical for large-diameter vessels where bolted closure is impractical
-
Compensates for Worn Surfaces:
Inflatable expansion compensates for minor wear, corrosion, and surface irregularity on vessel rims that would allow bypass on standard static gaskets
-
Custom Cross-Section Profiles:
Round, D-section, P-section, and custom extrusion profiles available to match any groove geometry on pharmaceutical vessel covers and access doors

Applications
-
Pharmaceutical Reactors:
Sealing of agitated reactor covers and access doors in pharmaceutical API manufacturing — FDA silicone ensures no extractable contamination of pharmaceutical products
-
Centrifuge Covers:
Sealing centrifuge bowl covers and top-entry hatches in pharmaceutical and food-grade centrifuges where rapid opening and positive sealing between cycles are required
-
Mixing Vessels:
Sealing of mixing tank covers and manholes in pharmaceutical, food, and chemical mixing operations — inflatable sealing accommodates lid flexure under vacuum or pressure
-
Autoclaves and Sterilisers:
Door seals for pharmaceutical and food-industry autoclaves where repeated steam sterilisation cycles require consistent sealing performance without gasket replacement
-
Cleanroom Access Hatches:
Sealing cleanroom wall pass-through hatches and access doors — inflatable gasket provides cleanroom-class sealing without mechanical clamping hardware in the cleanroom space
