What Is a Silicone O-Ring?
An O-Ring is a torus-shaped (donut-shaped) elastomeric seal that sits in a machined groove and is compressed when the joint is assembled, creating a pressure-tight seal between two mating surfaces. Silicone O-rings are selected over other elastomer O-rings when the application requires: FDA-compliant food or pharmaceutical contact material, service temperatures above 120°C, repeated steam sterilisation cycles, or flexibility at sub-zero temperatures. Silicone has a broader temperature range than EPDM, nitrile, or neoprene and better biocompatibility for direct product contact.
